Heritage character, reimagined for contemporary family living.
Located within a heritage conservation area in Hunters Hill, this residential transformation balances the character of the existing home with a contemporary response tailored to modern family living. The design maximises the potential of the tight suburban block while respecting its established heritage setting.
Existing bedrooms at the front of the residence were thoughtfully reconfigured, while the rear was opened to create a generous, light-filled living environment. Where possible, existing materials were repurposed, helping connect the home’s original character with its new architectural elements.
Constructed from timber stud framing, the structure is clad externally in standing-seam Colorbond and lined internally with blackbutt timber, which continues across the eaves for a warm, cohesive finish.
EBG managed the construction, site constraints and Council requirements while carefully integrating the new works with the retained residence. The result is an open, practical and highly individual home where a challenging privacy constraint has been transformed into a bespoke architectural feature - bringing together heritage character, contemporary design and everyday functionality.
