Structural renewal suspended above a sensitive harbour setting.
The Parsley Bay Bridge remediation project required the comprehensive renewal of the existing pedestrian suspension bridge for Woollahra Council. The works were carefully planned to restore the bridge’s structural integrity, durability and presentation while retaining its established character.
The scope included anchoring and concrete encasement of new lateral suspension wires, together with the controlled removal of existing lead-based paint. All corroded metal structural components and fixings were removed and replaced, the timber bridge decking boards were renewed, and the entire structure was prepared and recoated with a new protective paint system.
The bridge’s elevated position over the bay created significant access, safety and environmental challenges. EBG developed a staged delivery methodology centred around a fully enclosed suspended working platform installed beneath the bridge. The platform progressed systematically from one end of the structure to the other, providing safe and stable access to each section of work.
This allowed lead-paint removal, structural repairs, component replacement and coating works to be undertaken within a controlled environment.
